Microsoft Says Free 24hr Xbox One Game Promotion Was An Error

A couple of days ago, Microsoft and Xbox One made waves when it came to light that they might let players play games on Xbox Live for free for a period of up to 24 hours. Microsoft’s official Twitter itself seemed rather taken aback at this development, although it did promise an official announcement would be coming up soon. Sadly, the announcement isn't a good one.
It seems that it was all just an error.  Microsoft’s official statement was:
“A promotional tile for “Max: Curse of the Brotherhood” was posted briefly on the US dash in error yesterday. We apologize for any inconvenience. We’re constantly exploring different ways to offer more benefits to our Xbox Live Gold members and will keep them updated when special offers become available.”
