Microsoft Makes Windows Free, But Not for Everyone

At its’ 2014 Build conference, Microsoft has announced that it plans to make Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1 free. But, there’s a catch. This so called “free” option is only available for people who are using devices with display’s smaller than 9-inches. So, basically if you have a 10-inch tablet or an 11-inch notebook, you can’t use this free version of Windows.

Will this help Microsoft boost more sales? Highly unlikely. Even though it would allow more manufacturers to start making more Windows Phone devices, it’s not likely for mobile users to jump to Windows Phone and give up on a totally free and much mature mobile platform such as Android. Microsoft is simply trying to get more users to the Windows Phone platform with this new plan. Personally I believe Microsoft would have a better chance of getting more customers if they stop trying to make Windows Phone better and just focus more on Windows for PC’s.
