Microsoft has announced that the unified OS for desktop, laptop and tablet users, Windows 8 has crossed the 40million licenses sold mark. This number is much bigger than what Windows 7 had after its launch. And the company claims that Windows 8 is outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades.

All this credit goes to, how easy they made it for users to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8. In the first 5 days they managed to sell 4 million licenses and 30 days later the number has touched 40 million.

Windows 8 is the first Operating System for Windows which has a Windows Store, and since even on the launch day the number of Apps in the Windows store were more than any other app store at their launch. Since that then the number of Apps in Windows Store has doubled.Microsoft even informed that certain apps have crossed the $25,000 revenue mark and the developers keep 80% of the revenue earned by those downloads.

We still don’t know how successful this would be just on desktops compared to Windows 7, as the number 40 million not only includes upgrades from old users but also OEMs, and Surface tablets. Few more months, and we would have all the numbers we want to know. Moreover, next month starts a holiday season, which means more sale for Windows probably.
