Michael Kors Fall/Winter 2011 Ad Campaign

By Joychoo
Now, I was a certified advertising geek before I got wrapped up in fashion, so this is coming from an advertising point of view. Michael explains his vision for this campaign in a short YouTube video (another thing I love about the company…excellent use of social media), where he says that the inspiration for this campaign was paparazzi shots of celebrities, specifically in the 1970s. He wanted the photos to show what would be happening in the limo of the world’s most glamorous couple. I think he got his vision down pat here.

I look at Michael Kors’ new Fall 2011 ad campaign, and I actually want to be the female model. I want to run out and pick up all of the beautiful clothing I watched walk down the runway in February (live stream, of course). This is Michael’s first brunette female model in a long time, which I appreciate. She looks so glamorous, with her sparkles and beautiful gowns and pretty fellas surrounding her. She looks effortlessly chic, which is always the intention.

Entering and leaving a New York Broadway Theater is a subject close to Michael Kors’ heart for he’s been a Broadway Theater fervent since he was five. The campaign has something disturbing, despite its contemporary inspiration.

You know the festive season is just around the corner when almost every advertising campaign features fake snow in the background, and Michael Kors' Fall 2011 promotional pictures are no exception. They are always spot on, no matter what the occasion is. I say this because of their summer campaigns for 2009. Envisage a very naked, very toned, very tanned Carmen Kass on a boat with dazzling aviators. I found that in an April issue of Elle, and it stood out with all its yellowness. Same goes with their Cruise 2009 collection. Perfect green hues, naked Kass, animal print. Dazzling aviators. Very holiday-ish.

The same spirit elucidates from these fall 2011 campaigns, this time for the Christmas season. An abundance of furs, angora and cashmere. And again, those dazzling aviators. What I like about them is that they're not conceited in any way. They don't make you feel inadequate, and despite the weather, it's not a cold concept either- it's warm and friendly. This is also the Carmen Kass that many men and women can picture themselves marrying. Everyone wants a foxy, slender housewife to lay them a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings when the time comes. You can pretend to be oblivious to my connotations there... If you want.
