I am quite the fan of the pub quiz at the Michael Collins. We often join up with a group of expats and it is great fun. It looks exactly like you would expect an Irish Pub to look.
You can get a drink at the bar or if you prefer they have great table service.
Last time we went a little early to get some dinner. They have a good menu of classic pub food, if it wasn’t for the food being priced in €, I could easily have been in the UK. (I also spotted that they do traditional roast dinners at the weekend and if you think I won’t be there to check it out on my next available weekend, you don’t know me at all)
The ‘Burger Bar’ has a good selection and they are all reasonably priced. I opted for the Burger Madame, which in a similar vein to the wonderful Croque Madame Sandwich is a HUGE beef burger with bacon, cheese and egg. This was served with chips and salad.
The burger was juicy and tasty, just look at that fabulous fried egg! the chips were chips, rather than frites and the salad was fresh with a lovely dressing.
I didn’t come anywhere close to finishing my burger, it was really filling, although Boon gratefully accepted my leftovers.
I think I’m finally starting to get used to the smaller portions that are served here. I’m definitely not able to eat as much as I used to, which I guess I’m going to have to bear in mind when I’m ordering food from now on.
The Michael Collins has a great website, with all their address details and a full menu.
