Mic Drop Bourbon Batch 1 Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug

A brand created by P.M. Spirits, Mic Drop Bourbon Batch 1 (full – Mic.Drop. Straight Bourbon Whiskey) was created by some guys in NYC who wanted to put out a killer bourbon. The full story is too long to put here, but here’s the short version (full story is linked below above the quote).

The PM Spirits folks were looking to source some bourbon to put into the market. They went through “an endless flood of sub-par stuff” and then in late 2017 they got a sample of some 8 yo MGP whiskey. They thought it was great, flew out to meet the person who had 20 barrels of the stuff, tasted it, loved it and bottled it. Just how good was this bourbon? That’s exactly what the bourbon review below is all about. :)

Mic Drop Bourbon Batch 1 Review: Overall and Score

Flat out, this is a good whiskey. The Aroma is standard and pleasant, nothing crazy, but it’s heavy and rich; Palate has a nice heavy profile as well, but not quite as complex as the aroma, more on the sweet side; Finish is honestly my favorite part and comes through velvety. Digging this one through and through.

This Mic Drop Bourbon Batch 1 is a well-executed bourbon from MGP; Comparing this to some comparable MGP bourbons in the market it fits well. I also love how they plainly called out that it’s sourced, what the source is and the mash bill.  Comparing it to other non-MGP, for added perspective, it hits the same quality level of some of the better, recent, Booker’s releases.

This one is long gone, as is the 13 yo, but I hope they find more caches of good bourbon and keep bringing them to market!

SCORE: 88/100 (B+)
