“We wanted to show Mojang that it could be done in a way that benefited them and benefited their player base,” said MyMetaverse CEO Simon Kertonegoro.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) were opposed by Mojang Studios, the company that created Minecraft, but a company that focuses on the Metaverse was able to integrate NFTs into a number of games, including its own Minecraft server.

Simon Kertonegoro, CEO of MyMetaverse, and Oscar Franklin Tan, CFO of blockchain gaming company Enjin, discussed how they were able to connect the dots and integrate NFTs into Minecraft without breaking the game’s rules.

According to Kertonegoro, numerous servers have broken the NFT regulations for Minecraft, which were intended to safeguard gamers from unpleasant encounters. The CEO did point out that they are able to introduce NFTs on their own servers without breaking the rules of the game. They achieve this by eliminating all pay-to-win NFTs and making their finest NFTs completely free to participate in.

He explained that:

“We wanted to show Mojang that it could be done in a way that benefited them and benefited their player base and benefited the gaming industry as a whole. It’s obviously not you know, it’s not the fastest way to get people jumping in your server. […] But we knew that that was the right way to do it.”

Tan added his thoughts to the discussion and pointed out that Enjin supports MyMetaverse’s efforts to contact Mojang studios because the company’s NFT-integrated Minecraft server has been running for four years, long before Minecraft banned NFTs.

Even China, a nation that opposes cryptocurrencies, has showed interest in backing NFTs, the CEO continued.“If it works for the Chinese government, then why not Minecraft,” he mentioned.

The NFTs developed by MyMetaverse can also be used in games other than Minecraft, such as the company’s Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTAV) server and its own massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, Infinity Realm.

Kertonegoro explained that:

“These different games, read the user’s wallet, see that they own the NFT and provide them different benefits in the games. […] In Minecraft, this NFT is a sword. In GTA the NFT is a car and in Infinity Realms, the NFT is a house.”

Tan also emphasized his firm opinion that having NFTs that function in a variety of games is a crucial building block for the growth of the Metaverse.

He said that:

“Interoperability forms a greater community. It forms the foundation of what we now call the Metaverse, something we’ve been trying to build since 2018.”

Kertonegoro also emphasized that their NFTs will have a positive impact on Polkadot’s larger ecosystem because they run on Efinity, a Polkadot parachain created by Enjin:“The ecosystem could only grow through adopters innovating. And that’s what we’re doing, really.”
