Meta, previously known as Facebook, revealed that it has expanded its Metaverse Horizon Worlds to adults 18 and older in France and Spain. The move is part of a larger push to expand the platform’s reach to several countries in Europe.
Meta wrote on a blog post that it “has been amazed” by the rapidly growing community on Horizon Worlds, which has created exclusive experiences. These range from action-packed games to meditation-focused centers.
The company currently sees an average of 300,000 people visit Horizon Worlds every month. The only point of access right now is virtual reality headsets like the Meta Quest 2, although Meta is building a web-only version for people who don’t have access to such technology.
Many companies have taken advantage of the increasing popularity of Horizon Worlds by creating experiences for users. These companies involve Fender, that made an island where players could create their own guitar riffs, and Wendy’s, that created a virtual restaurant with Easter eggs and prizes.
Moreover, even Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Horizon Worlds and Meta’s aims are a long-term bet which will probably take years to manifest. Ever since Facebook changed its name to Meta, the company has lost money and suffered a stock market crash.
