One thing I have learnt over a period of time that Thai food is much beyond red/yellow curry that we normally eat at every pan Asian place.
Do you know that in 2011 when CNN did a poll worldwide, seven Thai dishes made it to the list of “world’s top 50 dishes”? This clearly reflects how much Thai food is popular worldwide.Thai cuisine is harmonious blend of sour, sweet, salty, bitter and spicy which is equally satisfying to your senses and palate. The emphasis is on preparing light meal using herbs and making it more aromatic, delicious and satiating. Like any other cuisine, Thai cuisine not only has its influence from neighbouring countries but also of western counties. Traditionally Thai people eat with their hands and sit on floor (like we eat in India). But the use of chopstick is believed to have been inspired from Chinese culture to eat Chinese style noodle soups. You will find it extremely interesting to know more about Thai cuisine and some great facts on the links below:http://www.sawadee.com/thailand/food/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_cuisine
MeiKun at Kempinski Ambiance has curated Thai food promotion that started yesterday. The event is from 10th July-19th July (dinner only). Chef Kwan has come all the way from Siam Kempinski Bangkok to showcase the authentic food of Thailand. I was excited to taste the food and was expecting that this will be foodies’ paradise in terms of flavor and authenticity and undoubtedly, I felt elated. MeiKun without a doubt is the hidden gem of Delhi that clearly tops the chart for Thai fine dining. As it was a preview lunch for bloggers, I got the chance to try varieties that was part of their special menu. Here are my five favorite dishes which you must try apart from other dishes. 1. Grilled pork neck Thai Style – after eating pork neck I can easily say that this tops my list of favourites, after pork belly. Just the right amount of lean meat, muscle, and fat, pork neck is so flavorful that you actually don’t need much of seasoning and goes really well with Jaew dip which is slightly sour and spicy sauce.2. Fried Shrimp with Garlic and Pepper – the use of palm or brown sugar gives it the perfect viscosity that makes shrimp delicious. Another of my favouritesIt has become my favorite dish. 3. Musamun Gai - Chicken in Musamun Curry – This typical Muslim style curry uses potato that provides right mix of starch. It gives good consistency to the curry. A must have dish. Ideally this tastes best if prepared with beef, however this chicken dish too was equally good.4. Pla Kra Pong Rad Prik - Fried Red Snapper in Chili Sauce – This was the star of the day. - Perfect fried red snapper, crunchy from outside and soft inside, with hot sweet sauce. 5. Phak Boong Fai Daeng- Morning glory (Water Spinach) stir fried with yellow bean sauce, garlic and chilies - famous Thai street food dish, also called Ong Choy in Chinese. This is usually eaten with rice. I love spinach and I loved this dish Apart from the above, I equally enjoyed the famous spicy pomelo salad, yum gai yang (spicy chicken salad) and tom yum goong and tom kha pak soup (perfectly spiced and well made)If you love Thai, then you just can’t miss this festival and even if you aren’t a Thai cuisine fanm you should visit and try it out. – You are surely to fall in love!
