We #meet our match with TGI Fridays
For the first time in eight years, TGI Fridays have added to their menu, and what an array of food they have chosen: from juicy melt-in-the-mouth Jack Daniel’s covered ribs to the “Bucket of Bones” as well as a simultaneously sweet & savoury Chicken waffle…not forgetting the new hot dogs with five new flavours…but I f this doesn’t make your mouth water then the larger than life Warrior burger will!
Of course you can’t visit TGI’s and not have a cocktail, a cheeky Cucumber Martini started the evening off. Summer in a glass, cool and crisp – definitely one for that rare humid day in Glasgow.
We hadn’t made it upstairs before (being a pair of bar flies we tend to come in for a cocktail and some JD wings) but this would be a great area for a party with lots of space and a quieter bar area.
The red carpet was out to show off the stars….
Clockwise: Tostadas beside Sweet and sticky barbecued pork belly.
Jack Daniel’s® Chili Dog beside Chicken Finger BLT Waffle.
Jack Daniel’s® Bucket of Bones and Double Layered Nachos.
The man with the biggest stomach in the world picked the Jack Daniel’s® bucket of bones as a starter. This bucket would happily keep two people busy (especially when paired with those cocktails!) as it’s main course-sized. It was full of flavour with the much-loved gooey JD sauce, melt-in-the-mouth meat and a kick from crushed chillies. This is the only place Mrs Foodie eats chicken skin, how can you resist when it is covered in sugary Jack Daniel’s® sauce?
More delicious JD sauce, this time pork belly. Thankfully a person sized portion (So Mrs Foodie got it all to herself!) With juicy meat, melting pork fat…..another plate please!
We soon met….The Warrior Burger – it features two 7oz burgers piled with Mozzarella fingers, Colby cheese, crispy bacon, American cheese, caramelised onions and Fridays mayo. Served with crispy fries and onion rings. I could almost feel Mr Foodie’s heart sink at the size (or was that stop?!)
Mr Foodie battles with The Warrior.
Success!
For the lady was the sweet/savoury chicken and waffle combo. I’d been ogling this beauty online – chicken, bacon, cheese, mayo and waffle, a tasty mix of sweet and savoury. Nothing at all like those cold, hard waffles that are often served, this one was fluffy with tender and crisp chicken inside. It’s another one of those famous (or infamous!) small portions from Fridays!
Mr Foodie got the chance to show off his lack of cocktail maestro skills – he makes a mean Aviation at home but the guy’s at Friday’s jobs are safe.
The new menu at TGI’s certainly allowed us to “meet our match” or should that be “meat our match”, we were both stuffed with various types of meat, with the bucket of bones and chicken waffle being especially great, but Mr Foodie does not recommend eating a full bucket of bones and Warrior Burger in a single siting – make two visits instead!
Many thanks to TGI Fridays for inviting us along to meet the staff and see the new additions to the menu.
Fred assures you that although his mum and dad were fed and watered by TGI Fridays, they are a pair of grumps and need a lot to be impressed.
