French automaker Bugatti recently unveiled its latest creation, the "Bolide" hypercar. The Bugatti Bolide is a track-oriented hypercar with an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 0.679 kg per BHP. The manufacturer had this car produced at 1,824 BHP while keeping the weight to less than 1,240 kg thanks to its excellent engineering.

In 2014, Koenigsegg introduced their first supercar, One: 1, with a power-to-weight ratio of 1: 1. Now what Bugatti has achieved is much better than Koenigsegg One: 1.

Apart from this, the automaker also complaints that Bugatti Bolide can reach a top speed of over 500 km / h. In addition, the hypercar can sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.17 seconds. In addition, Bolide only takes 3: 07.1 minutes to ride one of the world's most famous tracks at Le Mans.

Bugatti Bolide: powertrain

Under the hood is the same 8.0 liter W16 engine that is used in the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. However, there is a significant difference in the power output of the two models. Unlike Chiron, where the output was 1578 BHP, Bolide delivers a total power of 1824 BHP.

This is done by readjusting and optimizing the engine to increase total power. For example, the incorporation of four turbochargers with newly designed blades to generate more boost pressure, the redesign of the dry-sump lubrication system, and much more.

All of this resulted in an output of 1,824 BHP and 1,850 Nm of torque.

Apart from this, the Bugatti Bolide has an air-to-air intercooling system with water pre-cooling instead of water-to-air pre-cooling for optimum performance.

What made Bugatti Bolide the company's lightest vehicle?

To reduce the overall weight of the vehicle, the automaker removed many small components as well as new materials used.

In many places Bugatti has incorporated thin-walled hollow components made of aerospace titanium alloys. This material is super light with a thickness of 0.5mm and at the same time has excellent strength. The material has a tensile strength of 1250 Nm per square meter.

In addition, all fasteners and screws are made of a lighter material like titanium.

In addition, the push rods used in the suspension system weigh only 100g. Another element contributing to the weight reduction is the strong application of carbon fiber in the chassis and other parts of the hypercar.

All of this ultimately led to an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 0.67kg per BHP.
