Cady Heron is the new girl who had been living in Kenya and home schooled by her mother. Entering high school with the hierarchy was never going to be easy, especially when she enters the Plastics clique and is about to come into battle with Regina George.

⭐️⭐️

This film version is based on the Broadway musical adaptation of the original film.

Cady entering the High School world was never going to be an easy step, not sure what she was letting herself in for. The different groups that were formed and attempting to find her people Janis and Damian feel like a good choice as they are quite content with how they actually are, but the lure of the Plastics wanting to let her eat lunch with them is too much and what starts as an attempt to learn more about them backfires.

Meeting Aaron was never going to end well when Cady develops a crush on him and then finds out that he is Regina’s ex-boyfriend. Throw that in with a burn book from years ago and the horrendous way that teenagers treat each other and that is the basis of the plot.

We are then given musical numbers throughout but none of them were memorable in performance or lyrics, honestly I found myself so disappointed in that way. I adore musicals and was hoping that this was going to be enjoyable from start to finish. The 2004 film has a cult following and nothing really managed to transfer from that twenty years later.

The camera angles at times for mainly the musical moments were terrible and all over the place, strange ways to put it across. The songs and lyrics just weren’t strong enough and the actual performances around them set up in a poor way. Seriously I wanted to like this film so much, it’s far from fetch.

Auli’i Cravalho and Jaquel Spivey were the standout performers though!
