Mark Redmond likes a Challenge
Mark Redmond is the founder and owner of Mobius Recycling Group; the parent company to RTS Waste, Crossways Recycling and Wasteology Ltd. Starting a new venture and seeing it succeed and reach great heights has been his life long ambition. With the success of business the challenge of reaching great heights has diversified into his hobbies. In July 2012 Mark lead "Team Redmond" to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon; completing the 3 Peaks Challenge. Not satisfied, he was determined to better that achievement so he trained hard for endurance and fitness to meet the goal of climbing 5,895 metres to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the worlds highest free standing mountain and one of the worlds largest volcanoes.
Meeting in Tanzania
Mark was joined by a good friend from Australia. They met in Tanzania and together with guides, trekked up the mountain for 6 days. The experience "was the hardest thing I have ever done" said Mark afterwards. He went on to say " the last section took everything I had to keep going. Although I could see the top and the occasional person coming back down encouraged me, the last 100m took me 4 hours .The sheer lack of oxygen made every single step incredible to muster up the energy to move further forward. BUT I DID IT."
The Summit
On the 22nd July2013 Mark reached the summit. The sign at the top gives facts and figures and a Congratulations from the Tanzanian Government. However, there are stickers from past trekkers who have left their mark on the top of the peak. Annually approximately 15,000 people attempt to reach the summit of the mountain, of whom 40 per cent do so. RTS, Crossways Recycling and Wasteology were all very proud of our Managing Director Mark Redmond. A true inspiration not just in the office, in the yard or behind a wheel of his fleet.
