This MD-11F freighter is poised for takeoff from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.  FedEx Express operates one of the largest civil aircraft fleets in the world (>680) and also carries more freight than any other airline.  Based on the DC-10 airliner, McDonnell Douglas started to search for a derivative aircraft in 1976 which resulted in the MD-11 program launch in 1986.  FedEx still operates 57 of these MD-11 aircraft with the older ones being retired out of service. The MD-11F was the last and longest (1988–2000) manufactured version.
