Some unique aircraft in the Yanks Air Museum collection, like this prototype helicopter. First flown in 1948, the MC-4 was the first helicopter developed by McCulloch Aircraft Corporation, a division of McCulloch Motors Corporation. This small two passenger utility helicopter was originally designed by the Helicopter Engineering Research Corporation in 1948. When the slightly larger MC-4C was certified in 1953 it was the first tandem-rotor helicopter to be certified in the United States for commercial use. Three examples were evaluated by the US Army as the YH-30, but the helicopter was considered underpowered. McCulloch Aircraft moved to California soon afterwards and was renamed McCulloch Motors, later dominating the chainsaw market. Robert McCulloch later purchased the famous “London Bridge” and had it relocated to Havasu City, AZ. Nikon D500 w/18-200mm.
