Maybeshewill have shared the video for ‘Refuturing’ ahead of the release of new album – and first since their 2016 hiatus – ‘No Feeling is Final’ (out on the Robot Needs Home Collective label on 19 November. Guitarist Robin Southby says: ‘Conceptually, Refuturing (and the album as a whole) is concerned with the existential dread surrounding the climate crisis, how we understand our complicity in the crisis within the confines of our current morality system and ‘refuturing’ – rejecting existing power structures used to subjugate, and reimagining a future built on entirely new systems that are sustainable and beneficial to all.’
Opening with subtle electronic beats and haunting, ethereal stabs at the piano, the track builds up the momentum around a minute and a half in as powerful post-rock guitars and stirring strings combine to devastating effect. This urgency continues with the crashing Three Trapped Tigers-esque drums and far-reaching soundscapes that follow. There’s a chance to catch your breath at around the 3 minutes 40 seconds mark before it gently eases to its end in a jazz-filled and slightly psychedelic space…
