According to the Anti-Terrorism Bill presented to Parliament yesterday, if a person who is convicted of perpetrating an act of terrorism is liable to Rigorous Imprisonment for up to twenty years and also fined upto Rs.1 million.
Accordingly, provisions are made to subject a person who is found guilty in the High Court of an offense related to a Anti-Terrorism Bill committed on a highway or in a public place is liable for this punishment and fine. Provisions have also been made to enforce the law not only in this country but also in relation to an offense committed in an aircraft or a vessel. Murder, wounding, hostage-taking or abduction is an offense under this bill. It is also an offense to cause serious damage to a public or private property, to create a serious risk to the health and safety of the public and to destroy or seriously damage any religious or cultural property.
According to this bill, provisions have been made to sentence a person convicted by the High Court of murder to life imprisonment.
