Massimo Gentile: Fun with Type and Illustrations

Posted on the 13 April 2012 by Themarioblog @garciainteract

TAKEAWAY: Massimo Gentile, design director at Italy’s Il Secolo XIX, is not just designing newspaper pages all day.  The talented Massimo also tries to do a type illustration a day.  Here are some of his most recent ones.

While most of us look at type catalogs and admire the curvatures, ligatures and overall feeling that a letterform presents to us,  Massimo Gentile, design director at Italy’s Il Secolo XIX, takes it all one step further.

I like to work with type to make statements.  Maybe some of these things have been done before, and that is OK, one does not have to be the first, but , for me, this is like daily therapy,“ Massimo tells me.

In fact, Massimo made a 2012 resolution: to create one of these type mini posters everyday.  So far, we think he is keeping his promise.

Here I post some of Massimo’s creations for you to enjoy.
