Masca – ‘Sweet Tooth’

Masca have shared ‘Sweet Tooth’ ahead of the release of new EP ‘Teen Dream Dealer’ in June.

With angular guitar work and a woozy, wonky melody that falls somewhere between Everything Everything and Anamanaguchi, the song ponders the seemingly perfect nature of AI and how – if you fall madly in love and come to rely on it – it’s bound to affect our relationships with other imperfect, fallable, mortal human beings… Think Spike Jonze’s Her but wrapped in a spiky three and a half minutes of experimental, oddball indie pop.

After some glorious hooks and a perfectly pitched handclap moment, Tina opens ‘Sweet Tooth’ by saying “You got a taste for what I can’t be’ before pondering how she’s not fast enough and challenging the person who fell for the machine – ‘Screen time voodoo’s got you’ – before finishing with a stark (and important) warning that they’re ‘Chasing the Golden Goose into the abyss’.
