Masala Milk Recipe for Toddlers

By Hemapriya Natesan @MyLittleMoppet

It's winter, and the cold mornings make you feel like curling up under warm blankets and going back to sleep! However, the real world beckons and we need to wake up with a smile and get on with our day. This can be particularly difficult with toddlers, who're known for their favorite answer to everything: 'No!' This can apply to waking up as well as to their regular glass of milk in the morning. One way you can literally spice things up, is by offering them this yummy masala milk!

This homemade masala milk is a great substitute for store bought milk mixes that contain loads of added sugar. The spices in this milk make sure that your little one stays warm, full and safe from diseases.

Ingredients

  • Dry fruit powder - 2 teaspoon (If you don't have dry fruit powder at home, you can make your own with almonds, pistachios, cashews, saffron, nutmeg and turmeric. Get the recipe here)
  • Peppercorns - 2
  • Cardamom/Elaichi - 2
  • Fennel/Saunf seeds - 1/2 teaspoon

Method

1. Grind the peppercorns, cardamom and saunf seeds to a powder and add to the dry fruits powder. If you don't have the dry fruits powder, you can dry roast the ingredients and grind them finely.

2. To make the masala milk, dissolve 2-3 teaspoons of the masala mix in a glass of hot or chilled milk. Add sugar as required, stir and serve.

This is a great mix to make at the start of winter, so that you can use it throughout the cold months. The dry fruits in it offer nutrition, while the spices offer warmth and healing. If you have the dry fruit powder already at home, then making this mix is a piece of cake - and equally yummy!
