masala vadai kuzhambu - masala vadai/lentil fritters in a tangy sauce.finally ,i am sharing here and i made this last week for this chilling winter.It goes very well with the rice and papad.once you prepared the vadai/vada ,then you will finish this within minutes.You can also use leftover masala vadai for this recipe.

I already shared the recipe of masala vadai here,check it out for making vadas and follow the kuzhambu recipe here.I adapted this recipe from my Sithi(aunt),who made this months back and i helped here in making vadas only and followed the recipe.She added grated cabbage to the masala vada batter to make it more healthier and flavorful.I did not added cabbage for my vadas and you have to make the vadas in medium to small size.This makes the kuzhambu more appetizing and you have enough kuzhambu while serving.

Make your kuzhambu little watery or make that enough for soaking vadas.So you can get more kuzhambu for rice while serving.I made medium sized vadas for the kuzhambu for us,2 persons,so 1 added 7 to 9 vadas in the kuzhambu.

lentil fritters in spicy tangy sauce

Ingredients
  • masala vadai/paruppu vadai - as needed(for the recipe click the link)
  • onion - 2 finely chopped
  • tomato- 1 finely chopped
  • coconut - 1/4 cup
  • fennel seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  • tamarind pulp - 1/2 cup
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • coriander powder -1 1/2 teaspoon
  • curry leaves - as needed
  • mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • black gram seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • fenugreek seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - to taste
  • sesame oil - as needed
Instructions
  1. heat 2 tablespoons of sesame oil in the kadai,add mustard seeds,black gram seeds and fenugreek seeds.Once they splutter add onions,curry leaves and saute it till they becomes soft.
  2. now add the tomato and cook it till it becomes soft and mushy.
  3. Add tamarind pulp along with turmeric powder,red chilli powder and coriander powder to it.
  4. add enough salt for this kuzhambu and mix it well.
  5. boil it for 5 to 7 minutes in medium flame with enough water.
  6. Meanwhile make a fine paste with coconut ,fennel seeds with enough water.
  7. add the paste to the kuzhambu and cook it for another 6 minutes.add water if needed.
  8. Once it came to boil and start to thicken,add the vadai/vadas to it and cook it for 5 more minutes
  9. serve piping hot with steamed rice.
