Marrakesh, Kalyani Nagar, Pune, Best Kebabs and Best Lebanese

By Maneesh Srivastva @urbanescapades
"Don’t judge a book by its cover” is a proverb perfectly suited for Marrakesh. A bunch of metal chairs made up the seating options with a few potted plants thrown in-definitely not the most inviting décor. But seeing the queue of patrons & the number of parcel orders flying off the counter, I figured I was at the right place. And after the tasting, I agree that this place definitely lets its food do all the talking.
Marrakesh has won the best kebabs and best Lebanese categories of the Times Food Awards.
For starters, garlic hummus with olive & pita bread was creamy while the olives gave a nice bite to the dish. Makrana kebab was moist & done to perfection. There were no dry or charred kebabs here. Murg kali mirch had supreme chicken pieces in subtle flavours. My favorite though had got to be the chicken chops which were melt in the mouth succulent chicken in a creamy marinade. In two words it was absolutely divine. Zatar naan had just the right quantity of the spice mix sprinkled on it without overpowering it.
For mains dabba gosht had tender mutton pieces in a nice rich gravy while the fried egg on top complemented the dish perfectly. Murg dum biryani was delicious with the mint adding the refreshing element. Dajaj shawarma had rotisserie chicken in hummus, tahini & garlic sauce. It was a knockout dish as well. The falafel roll was tasty and since it was wrapped in home- made roomali roti, it brought a ghar ka khana touch to it. For dessert the Malai phirnee in a kulhad was thick & oh so delicious.
