Unlike summer and winter, getting dressed for Autumn has its difficulties; one minute the weather can be crisp and cool, the next it's muggy, and then-if you're living in Melbourne-it starts to rain.
While for those living in sunny Queensland, like I do, it's still steamy and humid outside and frosty anywhere that's air-conditioned, so it's no wonder we can't decide what to wear!
In this case, there's one thing to do-layers. Playing around with layers allows you to mix up your wardrobe, and your favourite looks, with just a few simple pieces.
To help you stay prepared for Australia's unpredictable autumn weather, here's some of my favourite pieces from my latest Marks & Spencer delivery which can all be transitioned for those cooler mornings and evenings.
The Double Breasted Trench Coat + Checked A-Line Midi SkirtI recently watched The Marvellous Mrs Maisel and fell in love with Midge's (Rachel Brosnahan) wardrobe and soon after set out to find myself a pink coat reminiscent of the one worn in the first episode-and I found one for under $100.
This Double Breasted Trench Coat (T49/3422) can be worn loose or fitted, and it is lightweight enough that it's perfect for Brisbane's autumn, but will be warm enough when layered over long sleeves or a lightweight knit come winter. And at $94, I had change left over for a coffee!
For those who aren't so partial to pink, it also comes in six other colours-Navy, Periwinkle (baby blue), Melba Blush, Dark Stone, Black and Honey (yellow).
For an office-friendly outfit, I layered my trench over the Checked A-Line Midi Skirt (T59/7940), $94with a Cotton Rich Longline Fitted Vest Top (T41/1519), $13 and a pair of black heels. Come winter, this midi skirt will be great teamed with a cosy knit and ankle boots, or a black turtleneck or silk camisole and a leather jacket.

The Denim Mini Skirt + Checked Trench CoatFor this look (which is very reminiscent of what I used to wear in the mid-90s) I've paired the button up a-line Denim Mini Skirt, $48 (T57/4004) with a Pure Cotton Contrast Stripe Regular Fit T-Shirt (T41/1566), $17 (super stretchy and great for wash and wear) and the Holiday Slogan Tote (T01/1660Y), $67 which I spotted last month.
This outfit was perfect for a casual Friday in the air-conditioned office, but I'm already looking forward to topping it off with this Checked Trench Coat (T49/3419), $85, ankle boots and a navy felt fedora for a winter weekend look.

The White BlazerThis season, think about giving your go-to black blazer a break and embrace one in winter white like this Single Breasted Blazer (T59/2867J), $131.
A white blazer can be worn over everything from a little black dress, to a button up shirt and a pair of denim shorts or, as I've done here, denim jeans and a white linen shirt for a simple off-duty weekend look.
For a more formal look, pair it back with tailored black pants or get the matching Wide Leg Ankle Grazer Trousers (T59/2867T), $85, for a sexy suit that's effortlessly chic (just ask the divine Diane Keaton who has been rocking white suits since the 70s).
