It’s official! I’m in Week 5 training for the 2016 Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon Challenge Series in Cleveland, Ohio. Like I told you before, all of the races in the series take place over the weekend of May 14-15, 2016. If you haven’t signed up for the race yet, you can still get some great pricing on it so be sure to sign up soon!!
….and for you, my Florida friends, once I get home from the Cleveland race, I’ll be starting a training plan all over again to prepare for the fall Florida race season, which includes the Myakka River Half Marathon here in Sarasota, Florida. Make sure you find them on Facebook since they’re always offering a great pricing deal for their race too!
Okay so it is Tuesday so it’s time to give you a report. It’s not a perfect training week – I’ve been a little off with the pollen and allergies and such down here. I traded piles of snow in Ohio for piles of pollen in Florida – no kidding.
I currently take allergy pills all year around – the kind with the “D” in it – and right now I’m trying something new that I heard about but it’s too soon to know if it’s working. A tablespoon of local honey everyday is supposed to build up a tolerance to the exact pollen that I’m allergic to. First, the honey has to be raw so that it still contains all the living enzymes needed to protect me from a histamine overdose. Next, the honey needs to be local. In other words, the honey needs to be harvested nearby where the same sort of plants are blooming at roughly the same time. They say after about two weeks, I’ll have built up enough of tolerance that I will feel some relief from the suffering. I had been taking it consistently for a couple weeks and then the weather got “cold” and I figured the pollen wasn’t moving around so I stopped. Now I’m back on track, and I’m on day #3 of this 2-week build up period, so I’ll keep you posted.
Okay, so enough of all that, you wanted to see my training, and while it’s short, it’s here:
Monday – rest day
Tuesday – shoulda, coulda, woulda, but didn’t
Wednesday – 3 Mile Run (Mile 1 14:04; Mile 2 13:50; Mile 3: 14:01)
Tuesday – see Tuesday above
Friday – 3 Mile Run (Mile 1 13:58; Mile 2 14:12; Mile 3: 14:07)
Saturday – long run scheduled but didn’t occur until Monday below
Sunday – “cross training” – awesome 15 mile fun bike ride called Pedal for Pups!
Monday – 5 Mile Run (Mile 1 14:28; Mile 2 14:14; Mile 3: 14:00; Mile 4 13:58; Mile 5 14:04)
The bike ride was really fun, but I’ll admit that the bones “there” forgot what bike riding felt like. I definitely need to pick up a pair of bike shorts for sure! On the plus side though, I learned something really cool about my gorgeous pink Trek Neko bicycle too – they actually are Bluetooth/ANT+ ready right in the body of the bike! All that’s required is a little sensor that I picked up at the my favorite local bike shop! That means instead of adding a bike computer that would require real estate on my handlebar, I just put my Garmin on like I do when I run! The only tricky part? Before I start pedaling, I really need to remember to hit “start” on my Garmin so I can actually collect the data of my bike ride. (Yep, you saw that – I forgot to do that on this ride. UGH.)
Okay, so that’s enough for this week. While I sit here typing this today, Tuesday, I’ve already missed a run for this week thanks to a 24 hour bug I seem to have gotten. I woke up feeling like I was going to have the flu for a week, but by 3pm I was feeling pretty good and now I seem to be back to my regular self! Until next week, happy running!
