Manoj Muntashir is an Indian lyricist, television script and screenwriter, and a prolific poet. Very few people would know that his real name is Manoj Shukla. Manoj Muntashir, a name whose pen created a new history in Bollywood. All the Hindi dialogues of ‘Bahubali 2’, the new revolution of Hindustani cinema, has been written by Manoj. Early Life
Manoj’s father was a farmer by profession and his mother a teacher in primary school. The father did not have any special income, and the mother’s salary was just 500 rupees. Even after this, his parents taught him in the convent. Manoj Muntashir was fond of writing since childhood, read Diwan-e-Ghalib book in class 7 or 8 but he did not know Urdu, so it was difficult to understand that book. It was necessary to know Urdu to write the song. He was from a Pandit family and it was difficult to learn Urdu.
Then one day bought a 2-rupee Urdu book from under the mosque, Urdu was written with Hindi in it. After this Manoj Shukla became Manoj Muntashir forever. Manoj Muntashir’s father first came to know that his beloved son had changed his name as if mourning had taken place in the house. When he decided that he had to write songs in films, his father could not change his decision. Even after being born in a small city like Amethi, Manoj did not stop dreaming big. He paved the way for reaching his dreams with his pen. He once told the media that when he reached Mumbai from UP, he did not have much money. They say that the shoes were torn and climbed to the sky, the dreams were bigger than our size.

Manoj told that he had a love for the first time during his school days in 1994 when he was only 17 years old. When Manoj asked the reason, the girl told that her father did not like Manoj. Manoj said that the father of any girl in the world does not like her boyfriend. Father will be understood. But the girl did not listen. The girl said that you are a very big failure. You will not be able to do anything in life.
Manoj told that after the girl left, he angrily wrote a poem which was something like this “Aankhon kee chamak, jeene kee mahak, saanson kee ravaanee vaapas de. Main tere khat lauta doonga, too meree javaanee vaapas de. Vo din bhee kaise din the jab palakon par khvaab pighalate the. Jab shaam dhale, sooraj doobe dil ke angaare jalate the. Vo dhoop chhaanv sab khaak huee, yaadon ke chehare peele hain. Kal khvaabon kee phasalen thee jahaan vahaan ret ke teele hain. Aankhon ke dariya sookh gae, la inaka paanee vaapas de. Main tere khat lauta doonga too meree javaanee vaapas de”.
Career
In the year 1997, Manoj got a job in Allahabad Akashvani. 135 rupees was received as the first salary. When he reached Mumbai to realize his dreams, he did not have much money. His shoes were torn even. Nearly one and a half years were spent on the pavement in Andheri, Mumbai. Had to stay hungry for several days. Even after this, Muntashir did not give up. In the year 1999, Anoop Jalota gave the first job. He gave a hymn to write. He had never written a hymn before this. Therefore, he had a lot of difficulty in this work. For this work, Anoop Jalota gave a check of Rs 3000 to Manoj. He says that after seeing such a huge amount, I started thinking of myself as rich.
Bollywood Career
16 years ago, a Star TV official, impressed by Manoj’s work, called him to meet him. When he talked about Manoj Muntashir meeting Amitabh Bachchan, he thought he was joking. Then the person took him to a hotel, where he met Amitabh Bachchan. After a 20-minute meeting, his selection took place and in 2005, he got to hear his lyrics in Kaun Banega Crorepati.
He has penned the lyrics of the song “Galliyan” from the film Ek Villain. He has also penned the lyrics to the song “Tere Sang Yaara” from the 2016 film Rustom. In the year 2016, Manoj wrote the lyrics to the song “Kaun Tujhe” from the movie MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and then the lyrics to the song “Dil Meri Na Sunne” from the film “Genius”. He also wrote the lyrics to the song ‘Teri Mitti’, played by Akshay Kumar in the 2019 film Kesari, for which he received a 2020 Filmfare nomination for Best Song, however, the song was defeated by the song ‘Apna Time Aayega’ from “Gully Boy”.
Controversy
In 2020, the song ‘Teri Mitti’ from the film “Kesari” (2019) was nominated for the Filmfare Awards in the Best Lyrics category along with ‘Apne Samay Aayega’ from the film ‘Gully Boy’ (2019). Out of all the nominations in the category, ‘Apne Samaya Aaya’ won, which upset Manoj and he decided to boycott all award shows. Declaring his disappointment through his social media accounts, he wrote that he would not be able to write a better song than ‘Teri Mitti’ and that he (Filmfare) failed to honor the songs that reached the soul of Indians. He further stated that he would not attend any award show till his last breath as it would be a great insult to his art if he continued to take care of such award shows.
