Making the House Baby Proof with Lindam

Review of Lindam Safety Equipment

One of the things I had forgotten about when babies start walking is how they are into absolutely everything! No cupboard or drawer is safe from prying eyes and fingers. Toys are no longer interesting, Little Miss A goes on the hunt for 'treasure'!

When Little Mr A was a baby we relied heavily on the Lindam safety equipment once he started to crawl and (eventually!) walk. Every door had a baby gate, every plug socket was filled with plastic and drawers had locks on them (that we sometimes struggled to get into!).

Since we have moved a couple of times we have lost a lot of the items we had, or they have been left at our previous house. I was interested to see what new products were on the market and was pleased when Lindam agreed to let me try out a couple of items in their range.

We were sent some items from the Xtra Guard Safety range. This is a range I don't remember coming across when Little Mr A was small and I was interested to see the difference in the products.

When they arrived I instantly noted that they felt a lot better quality and didn't look as plastic as the accessories we had had previously.

The first item to be put to the test was the Energy Absorbing Door Cushion. This looks and feels much more sturdy than the foam one we had previously. It works really well at keeping Little Miss A's fingers safe when she is opening and closing the door (which she likes to do a lot!) and is fairly unobtrusive on the door itself. When not in use you can hang it on the door handle for safe keeping out of the reach of any little hands!

The next item I put to use was the Dual Locking Multi Purpose Latch. I have used this on the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen where I keep all of the cleaning products. Obviously it is very important that Little Miss A doesn't get her hands on any of the items in there and, inevitably, it is one of the cupboards she goes straight for! The latch was incredibly easy to install. You simply peel off the backing from the sticky pads place it onto the doors whilst locked and that is it, stuck! I am always a bit wary with things like these just being stuck on with sticky pads, however, they are really strong and it would take some serious strength to be able to pull it off! To open the latch you have to push a button whilst pulling the latch from the door. It is very easy for an adult to do, however, I think it will be a good few years before Little Miss A (or Little Mr A for that matter!) manage to work it out.

The final item we were sent was the Dual Locking Angle Latch. Not wanting to sound like an idiot, I have had some bother with this latch! It's fine to stick onto the drawer, again the sticky pads are very sturdy, however, I have had trouble getting my head around how to open it. Big Mr A worked it out fairly quickly and has shown me how so I'm getting there. I would suggest not sticking this on an important drawer until you have mastered it!

Overall I really like the Lindam range of safety equipment - I think it does a great job and is great value for money.
