Maker’s Spotlight

By Francoisetmoi

I’m hoping to start a recurring column here on Francois et Moi bringing light to the Makers out there who are creating original and inspiring pieces to enhance our everyday. I hope you enjoy this new series as much as I do!

Scarf Shop –  A fellow Minneapolitan, Martha McQuade kettle dyes her incredibly luxe, drapes-like-a-dream cotton and wool scarves in small batches in her Northeast Minneapolis studio. And oh, do I want to wrap up in one of them.

Art & Manufacture – A ceramic artist by trade, Edith Bourgault prides herself in transforming ordinary objects into works of art through hand-painting them with blue and white classic motifs. Art & Manufacture has long been one of my favorite makers–not that I’m partial to blue + white or anything!

Wooden and Woven – Alex Devol’s lovingly hand-carved kitchen utensils make even the most mundane tasks feel artful and fun again. P.S. check out their Instagram feed–it’s so pretty!

Avo –  I mean, how dope are these hides?!?! Brit Kleinman plays with the juxtaposition of shape and pattern and explores the use of traditional materials in innovative ways with her out-of-this-world-cool painted cow hides. These hides are a pretty penny, but that doesn’t stop me from ogling them!

Do you have a favorite maker? Please pass their name along! I’d love suggestions for inspiring artisans to feature in upcoming Maker’s Spotlight posts!
