Make your own flower and candle display

Flowers and candles are often combined to create stunning centrepieces. They can be used to decorate your table on special occasions or even when you're not celebrating anything in particular at all.

You will need:

  • 2 candles
  • 2 candle supports
  • Floral foam
  • Round waterproof dish (to hold the floral foam)
  • Floral tape (transparent)
  • Flowers and foliage of your choice

Method:

  • Begin by soaking your floral foam until it has become saturated with clean water. This usually takes about 30 seconds.
  • Cut the floral foam to suit the size of the container. Even if the foam does not fill the dish, pieces can be added to fill it up.
  • Use floral tape to secure the foam so that it does not move around.
  • Place your two candle supports in the middle of the arrangement. They should not be close to one another. There should be some space in between.
  • Arrange foliage around the base of the arrangement to conceal the rim of the dish.
  • Now add some flowers and make sure that you alternate between the various sizes and colours. You don't want to create clusters but rather evenly distribute your flowers for a balanced design.
  • Make sure that you place enough flowers to conceal the floral foam. Add foliage in between as a filler and to make sure that there aren't any gaps.
  • Place your candles on the holders and display! Remember, you need only light the candles when you are enjoying dinner. Alternatively, you can use LED candles if you want to avoid open flames.

Remember to always consider colour schemes and combinations when decorating for a specific occasion. For example, black and orange are great for Halloween while red, white, and green are ideal for Christmas.
