Credit where it’s due: Majical Cloudz have one of the most original and instantly recognizable sounds going. They also know how to wring a whole lot of emotion out of a very minimal setup. Voice, subtle electronics and an undeniable presence: that’s all it took at Music Hall of Williamsburg Tuesday night to hold the packed house rapt. The music speaks for itself, but it’s the between-song banter of singer Devon Welsh — often awkward, always endearing — that makes each and every Majical Cloudz gig a memorable, one-of-a-kind experience. Here he offered profuse thanks to all those who have attended the band’s many NYC shows over the years and tried to preempt the usual “one more song” boos by announcing the duo’s fourth-to-last song. A classy and characteristically offbeat move by a group attempting to make something #real in an increasingly surreal world — and largely succeeding.

Speaking of the surreal, openers She-Devils — celebrating the release of a new self-titled EP — brought an entrancing, off-kilter mix of old school pop melodies and skewed samples that left us craving more.
