I got a variety of book genres this week. There’s some mystery, some Fantasy, some literary fiction, and some flat-out hard-boiled action. I don’t think I am going to have a boring minute this month!
Here are the books I got:
To satisfy my Fantasy taste-buds, I got Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. It’s got fairly mixed reviews, but when I heard that the book is soon going to be made into a movie starring Emma Watson aka Hermione Granger, my antenna perked up. If this series is going to be one of those hot ones, then I want to get behind it from the very beginning itself.
A more literary read is In Custody by Anita Desai. This book was short-listed for the Man Booker prize in 1994, and also has a movie based on the book starring Shashi Kapoor. It’s one of those Merchant-Ivory productions. I haven’t seen the movie, but I look forward to reading the book, which is a story about the clash between modernization and tradition. Plus, I”ll be glad to tick off another book from my Man Booker reading list.
The Murder Bag by Tony Parsons promises to be a fast-paced murder mystery and seems to be the first in a series. It’s been a long time since I read crime novels set in England, and I am looking forward to reading this one.
The next two books are outright thrillers. William Boyd’s Solo is the next installation in the James Bond franchise, and apart from that information, I know nothing about the book. Same goes with Bad Luck and Trouble, which is another Jack Reacher book by Lee Child.
All these books came to me from Penguin Random House.
Which books did you receive last week? Which ones are you looking forward to reading?
