I thought I’d lost my faith in lo-fi, and then I heard Magik Markers’ “Bonfire”, a combination of group vocal campfire chanting and excited punk rock. Elisa Ambrogio manages to dirty her voice without ever reducing it to a snarl, while drums and bass cruise along with all the amicable clarity you could possibly excise from a broken tape deck. Between the track’s goofy, AnCo punk intro and its gluey, Joy Division-esque body, “Bonfire” is not a track to be missed, and Magik Markers are a group to familiarize yourself with stat.
