Madrid Life ( Food & Drink)

By Tejal Hewitt @Tejal_x

My food and drinks places  visited ( or took pictures of) while I was in Madrid! Here we go!

We went to a Sushi bar on the first night in Madrid, and I ordered a seaweed aubergine starter, which was actually rather good. Very flavor some and had a lot of ginger and sesame seeds and sesame oil.

The followed by 6 big sushimi rolls with cucumber, avocado and cream cheese. These were lovely and very filling!

We went to bar called La Candelita which had some great cocktails.

A mango daiquiri was yummy and refreshing with real mango chunks

My friend ordered a passion fruit mojito

Gin and tonics are all the rage in Madrid – they like to pour them in style. Firstly not measures they just pour gin straight into a large glass and wait for you to say stop, then with a spoon the pour in the gin – but starting at the tip which then runs down the spoon! its great watch!

Nothing to cool you down like a Smooy – a natural frozen yogurt with fresh strawberries and dark chocolate flakes. It definitely hit the spot!

For Lunch on Saturday we went to a little tapas place called Cafe & Tapas ga compania del tropico, I would recommend someone who knows spanish as the menus are little difficult to understand.  I loved that they would come place a bowl of fresh olives on your table when you sit down.

We decided to try the local Fruit red wine with lemonade ( like a Sangria) – which was lovely, sweet and refreshing.

I ordered a courgette tapas – I was expecting a grilled vegetable tapas, however came as a cold blended soup style tapas, which was lovely just not what I was expecting.

My other Tapas was a Swiss Cheese Fondue which came out warm with lightly toasted bread sticks – if you love cheese then not sure how any one could not love a cheese fondue!

We went to a highly recommended Roof bar – which seems to be the in thing in Madrid. It was a great view – €15 to enter and came with a standard drink – the bar tenders do not measure and is generously poured! Like any establishment like this, the drinks were pricey a round of 3 drinks approximately €25-30.

For Sunday evening we decided to head to the Mercado de San Miguel which is an indoor market with bars and tapas.

It wasn’t as big as normal Markets I’ve seen, however definitely had a great atmosphere and you struggled to get a seat. They had a variety of foods some cheese counters, olives tapas, lots of sea food and meat based ( not so great for us vegetarians!) How my friends did have some Oysters and Pickled Eel!

However once we found a table and some bar stools – we stayed put! We took turns to wander off to find some tapas style snacks and drinks.

So I started with a blackberry cider ( which was amazingly good!) and some stuffed little red peppers with a soft goats cheese, a green olive with a strong mature cheese and black olives with sun-dried tomatoes and mozzarella. All 3 were probably my best food choices!

I had 2 pastries, one with curried tofu and other was a mushroom cheese pastry. Both weren’t very good – rather tasteless.

The strawberry cider was the best drink I had all night! Very sweet but tasted calorific too!

Overall I had a blast in Madrid! Thank you Kelly and Silvia for an awesome trip!
