We arrived at the Adolfo Suarez Airport ( Madrid) in a fligth of IBERIA, and took the Metro of Madrid (you can also take the commuter train with combinations) and arrived at the Sol station. We arrived at the hotel (3 blocks away) and then we prepared to walk the city.
In Madrid There is a very old chocolate shop near there. A classic in Madrid. The Chocolateria San Gines. There you can order the classic chocolate with churros. a delight
We take again the Calle Mayor, its continuation called the San Jerónimo Carrera. When this street ends is the Fountain of Neptune, one of the most famous fountains of the city.
The Retiro Park: Discovering Madrid in Three Days

Leaving El Retiro park through the Felipe IV gate, take the right on Calle Alfonso XII, until the park ends. There is La Puerta de Alcala. It is a door of neoclassical style and monumental aspect similar to the Arches of Triumph of the Roman Empire. It was built in 1778.
The curious thing about this construction is that it is the first triumphal arch built in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire, being older than others such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris ( 1806) and the Brandenburg Gate ( 1788) in Berlin.
