Nic Maddinson (59 in 95 balls with 8 fours) and wicket-keeper Josh Philippe (69 in 70 balls with 10 fours) added 111 runs for the third wicket as Australia’ A ‘ scored 212 for 5 wickets before rain halted play on the day three of the first four day game against Sri Lanka ‘ A played at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium Hambantota, yesterday.
Australia’ A’ were in a commanding position as they already lead by 317 runs with five wickets in hand in this four-day game.
Australia chose to bat first and were 379 (all out) in the first innings while Sri Lanka ‘ A’ were 250 for 8 wickets after the second day’s play continuing were 274 for all out yesterday. Nuwanidu Fernando (86), Lahiru Udara (50), Pabasara Waduge (30), and Lakshitha Manasinghe (35) made useful knocks for Sri Lanka ‘A team.
Todd Murphy the off spinner was the pick of the bowlers capturing best figures of 4 for 67 in 23 overs spell while
Paceman Mark Steketee shared a good supporting role finishing with 3 for 51 and leg spinner Matthew Kuhenmann 2 for 41 were the other successful bowlers.
Meanwhile, two players 25-year-old Matthew Kuhenmann and Travis Head who scored 39 in 29 balls were rushed to Pallekele to play for the National team against Sri Lanka. Kuhenmann made his debut for Australia yesterday while Head the experienced left-hander played his 46 ODI at the Pallekele.
Lakshitha Manasinghe the all-rounder who scored 35 in 61 balls with 6 fours was the most successful Sri Lanka ‘A’ bowler taking 2 for 83 in his 17-over spell at stumps of the day while Dilshan Madushanka, Prabath Jayasuriya, and Suminda Lakshan took one wicket apiece. The game will be continued today.
