Lunch with Lynn/Under 20 Eats Fifth Anniversary: Le Reminet

By Eyepreferparis88 @eyepreferparis

Five years ago this month Lynn invited me (or practically had to drag me) to have lunch at her favorite lunch bargain restaurant Le Reminet. Little did I know it would become a monthly habit, one of my most popular features on Eye Prefer Paris, and an opportunity to have some terrific food all over Paris. In the past five years we have eaten in over 40 restaurants, dining on French, Thai, Vietnamese, Turkish, Moroccan, Italian, Chinese, and Indian cuisine in almost every arrondissement.
We thought returning to Le Reminet would be the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. The interior of crystal chandeliers, deep plum walls, velvet banquettes, and gold gilt mirrors was exactly how I remembered it. When we first dined at Le Reminet in 2009, there was a formule for 13.50 for three courses and last week it had gone up to 14.90 euros, still an excellent buy for three courses. I’ve been back to Le Reminet many times again, and usually it was a mix of French and American diners, but surprisingly it was all French people last week, considering it was mid-August, the height of the vacances.
It was a crisp, autumn-like day, even though it was August and the starter of sweet potato soup was welcome. The velvet texture of the soup along with a piquant flavoring of ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg had us practically licking the bowl. Next up we both had the chicken breast with fettuccine. The tender breast had the natural jus from the chicken but also had a slightly sugary taste and we thought the chef may have been Asian, sprucing up the jus with some other flavors. The flavorful fettuccine tasted home made, but we found out later they weren’t. One of the consistent things about Le Reminet, is the portions are a good size, as we have eaten our share of paltry portions at many restaurants, going home hungry.

I opted for the cheese plate instead of dessert (watching my sugar intake very carefully these days). A lovely presentation included a slice of Camembert, Pont l’Eveque, and chevre, along with a delicate salad with a smattering of fresh walnuts. I sinned and had a heavenly bite of Lynn’s cream puff/chou with whipped cream and tart raspberry jelly.
Thankfully, time hasn’t changed Le Reminet that much, and we will hopefully return in another five years
Only one slight disappointment from the first time: the very, very, very handsome waiter Gabriel was not working there anymore, although the present waiters were pretty easy on the eyes.
