February 2017
Recently we were privileged to get a tour of the old SFO control tower prior to demolition. As with any control tower, the view of airport operations is quite impressive. The vantage point, combined with reverse operations due to weather, allowed my wife to capture something I hadn’t seen before- nose wheel smoke! Here an arriving A380 touches down on the nosewheel with thrust reversers already deployed on engines 2 & 3, no doubt anxious to stop the aircraft expeditiously due to the shorter length of runway 19R . Lufthansa is the second European airline to operate the Airbus A380 (after Air France). The first A380 was delivered on May 2010 and is one of the 14 in the fleet.
