Love Yourself: My Girls' Weekend and How You Can Practice Self-Care

By Jessicavenoy @lovelyjesscuh
If you haven't picked up on it, I've been allllll about that self-love lately. I'm sure you've heard things like, "You can't pour from an empty cup." The older I get, the more I realize just how true that is.
How can you expect to be your best self to those around you if you aren't even taking care of yourself? For women especially, it's easy to put ourselves last day in and day out. We're busy taking care of our family, friends, co-workers, whatever. But if you continue neglecting yourself and YOUR needs, sooner or later you're not going to have anything left to give.

Basically what I'm saying here is: Love yourself. Take care of yourself. If you don't you're going to crash and burn. You'll start to resent the people who you're spending all of your energy taking care of. And who wants that? Um no one I'm guessing.
It's no surprise that my schedule is P-A-C-K-E-D. But that's not an excuse to disregard self-care. So this past weekend, I left everything at home (computer, textbooks, planner...yes this was difficult for me) and got a hotel room with a girlfriend of mine.
We talked, laughed, drank wine, wore robes, did face masks, ate ice cream. We had no agenda, no schedule. It was FABULOUS. We woke up the next morning, got our signature AMLs (almond milk lattes for those of you who don't see me talk about these on the gram every day) and smoothie bowls (pictured above) before heading to yoga.
I came back home on Sunday feeling refreshed and ready to take on the weeks ahead :)
Now, I know that some of you can't get away for an entire night, but that doesn't mean that you can't do other things to take care of yourself. You can close the bathroom door and take a nice bubble bath. Or sit on the porch with a glass of wine or cup of coffee. Paint your nails while watching an episode of your favorite TV show. Take your sweet pup on a walk in the fresh air. Whatever your heart needs...DO MORE OF IT.

Take care of yourself. Fill your cup. Love who you are from the inside out.
