LOVE YOUR JEANS?

Did you know that it takes around 42 liters of water to make 1 pair of jeans, the industry uses more pesticides than any other and that Cotton growers have to cut down vital Eco systems to make room for cotton farms in some of the hottest parts of the world; Just so we can have our on-trend skinnies??

Well Researchers at Heriot Watt university in Scotland are looking into using Tencel - a textile derived from sustainable wood, as an alternative to our cotton consumption.

They are also looking into digital printing as a replacement for the conventional dying process :)

As a designer this is something that I am extremely interested in looking into, as I take my baby steps towards starting my own line which I would like to keep transparent, Eco friendly, humane & Fair trade. Ill be keeping an eye on the progress of such process in the coming years.
