Look for Less: Self Portrait Azalea Dress

By Lifeonthesquares @lifeonthesqs

This past wedding season, I tried to get on board the fashion girl trend: the Self Portrait Azalea Dress. I thought this dress was a versatile purchase. This dress seemed like it had a lot going for it: it could be worn to black-tie or cocktail events, was neither short nor long, and was a solid color. Seemed like a no-brainer. I told myself to invest. However, upon it’s arrival via Amazon Prime, I could not justify keeping it. For the heavy price tag, the fit was less than flattering on me, and the heavy fabric seemed not ideal for South Georgia outdoor weddings. I contemplated having major alterations, but with my short waist and big bust, it seemed like it would never work. So I sent it back, although disappointed because I was in love with the idea of the dress.

Last weekend, I was strolling down Broughton Street and popped in to Club Monaco. Boom. Displayed on the mannequin was a Self Portrait look-a-like! I tried this on and this dress was everything the other wasn’t: light weight, a comfortable fit, and not overly expensive. In fact, it is even ON SALE right now. So for $209 versus $500, I think the Club Monaco version is a great find. At it’s sale price – you can get 2 colors for the price of 1 Self Portrait, and, there is still much of the summer remaining for it to be worn. What are your thoughts? Look for more or less? XOXO
