London Walk of the Week: Classic London Mews & Hidden Passageways

By Lwblog @londonwalks

Every Sunday we’ll pluck just one walk from the vast London Walks repertoire and put it center stage.
You can check out the full schedule at www.walks.com
But if you only take one walking tour this week, why not make it…
CLASSIC LONDON MEWS & HIDDEN PASSAGEWAYS
Saturday 21st May 2:30pm
Earl's Court Tube, Earl's Court Road exit
This is a thread-the-needle walk. By that I mean it's possible to walk from Earl's Court to Kensington with hardly ever having to "deal with" - endure, "put up with" - main roads and busy streets and the general philistinism of the automobile culture. You can side street-it. Alleyway-it. Best of all, mews-it. Pretty maids all in a row. Well, not in a row - rather, strung along a thread-the-needle route. But yes - BIG YES - pretty-as-a-picture mews cottages. Lots of them pastel-splashed. Lots of them decked with flower boxes. Urban coves, havens of 19th-century tranquility. And, always always always, the pleasure of the route - of the way it "connects up". Here endeth the shorter version. For the longer version - lots more info about this walk - click on the link. .

Hilary, OBE, is a Historian, Soroptimist, and a professionally qualified Blue Badgeand City of London Guide Let alone a Supermum! Into the bargain, she's unquenchably cheerful. With her very English eye for the idiosyncratic and her sense of humor – to say nothing of her sense of history and her command of the material – she's a star turn. And hey, where else but London Walks are you going to be guided by an OBE!
A London Walk costs £10 – £8 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at www.walks.com
