Living With Merlin by Anita Bakshi is a book of spelling out the hardest grief of her life. I will call it a book of consolidation. A consolidation that is essential when all of a sudden something unexpected occurs in life. It is like assessing the balance sheet of your life after a tsunami. Meeting your soulmate doesn't happen in everybody's life. And spending the sweetest phase of your life with your soulmate is a blessing. That too when everything is going well in all aspects. And then when the biggest jerk of your life snatches your soulmate away from you, forever, brings a big disaster. A disaster where nothing looks good in life. When you have to drag every moment of your life in a forceful manner. Where nothing looks good. And you are not able to cope up with that sudden void or blank in life.
Living With Merlin not only reflects a truthful acceptance of life, as it comes, but it also lets you provide you a learning. A learning to cope up the dire consequences of your life. In fact, it teaches you how to accept every reality of life humbly and gracefully. Even when there the loss is huge, how to take it further positively. Acceptance is the first key. You need to accept the consequences of life. And even if you lose the dearest person of your life, you can stay with the togetherness. This togetherness might not be possible in a physical manner but quite possible mentally and by heart. Living with the memories to bring some energy that drives your life further. Even in those circumstances where you have no direction, no charm, and no inclination to live.
Living with Merlin is a story of reshaping your life facing a sudden and huge void. It is a story of coping with grief, as the title says. In fact, it is about living life while restructuring it. Though Merlin is the name of a dog that indicates caring and connecting in one way or the other. Overall, this is a superb attempt by Anita Bakshi in coping, accepting, redesigning, and consolidating life in the best possible manner. These 228 pages present daunting, touching, and intriguing moments.
