I love living like a local wherever I go and staying with Wimdu makes it easy to feel like a local.
I first stayed with Wimdu in Durban, South Africa, in a turn of the century town house. In addition to a list of recommended restaurants that I never would have found on my own, the instructions also included how to get monkeys out of the house – apparently shaking a broom at them does the trick! It’s these little things which make me feel right at home.
Flash forward to Girona. It was not my first time in Girona, I had been there earlier this year when I volunteered at MONA, a chimpanzee sanctuary. It was there that my Chimpanzee Love Affair with Charlie began and sadly ended just as quickly as it began.
I had a built in community of three lovely ladies. It would have been virtually impossible for the four of us to share a hotel room AND have our own beds, but it was easy in our Wimdu apartment. It had three bedrooms (2 single beds, 1 double) and a pull out couch which Barbara slept on.
Our Wimdu apartment offered AMAZING VALUE.
It cost just ~€100 night. That’s just €25/person a night for an entire furnished apartment! Our apartment was simply furnished, but Wimdu has over 50,000 properties across the globe, so you can find something for every budget if you are looking for something more luxurious.
The only downside was that while our Wimdu apartment had Wifi as promised, the connection was slow at times.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in our Wimdu apartment in Girona – in large part because it offered me a built-in community – which is the epitome of living like a local.
