Listen to Soul, Listen to Blue: Lace n Ruffles Lookbook

By Juliet Siu @Lacenruffles

I'm an 80s kid who was fascinated by my mum's oversized earrings and her extensive collections of scrunchies. Although throughout the years whenever we looked back at the old family photos, those hideous shoulder pads and spandex leggings never fail to make everyone in the room burst out in laughter. 80s fashion is seriously a hit or miss! Being a die-hard vintage lady, I thought I'd never ever be fond of 80s fashion - it's simply too messy, and every single piece from the era seems to be screaming at you and say " look at me, look at me!".

Yet, apparently your likes and dislikes change over the years, and your personal style evolves (don't you? I do!). Gradually, I found that 80s fashion doesn't all belong to the unwanted box at thrift shops. Surely, there're certain trends from 80s that would be a deadly sin to be revived - we're talking about those thong bottom leotards and the 'everything fluorescent' look. Yet look beyond those and there're still plenty of treasures to be dug from the thrift shop piles that are created in 80s.

I'm particularly obsessed with acid wash denim from the era. On my recent vintage hunt in Paris, I picked up this slightly oversized acid wash denim blouse that's embellished with beads and embroidery details. Inspired by the grunge rock vibe in 80s, I've put together this total blue on blue look that's slightly soulful and edgy:

80s acid wash denim blouse with embroidery: €10 thrift shop purchase from Paris Blue maxi skirt: Bought from Melbourne (brand unknown) Mesh ankle boots: Bought from Hong Kong (brand unknown) 80s black & gold beaded necklace: €8 thrift shop purchase from Paris Knit beanie hat with pom pom & black veil: Betsey Johnson Black leather bag: Jill Scott P.s. Keen to find out which are my fave vintage shopping spots in Paris? Don't miss my vintage shopping GPS Part 1 and Part 2 as well as the Springtime in Paris video previously blogged!
