Limavady Single Barrel Single Malt Irish Whiskey Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug

I picked up this Limavady Single Barrel Single Malt Irish Whiskey at Trader Joe’s because of the bottle shape: it was so weird. I’d never heard of the brand and almost left it there, but curiosity won out and I picked it up. It wasn’t till I got home I discovered it was imported by Whistle Pig.

I’m not the biggest fan of Whistle Pig, but I thought it was interesting they were getting into the import business. Well, technically they’ve been in the import business for a while – importing Canadian rye and bottling it in Vermont – but interesting they’re just doing the importing. The distilling and bottling is all happening in Ireland.

Now, let’s get to drinkin’!

Limavady Single Barrel Single Malt Irish Whiskey – Overall Thoughts and Score

Soft, slightly buttery and increadibly easy to sip. I thought the odd shaped bottle might make pouring awkward, but it actually made it a bit easier and I love those glass “corks”.

The aroma builds in sweetness as it opens but the palate builds in maltiness. It’s perfectly sippable and makes a great cocktail, like a Tipperary, if you ever want one. Well done Limavady on bringing something interesting to market.

SCORE: 3/5 (above average, worth checking out ~ B- | 80-82)
