'Tis the season for wearing cardigans as lightweight outerwear. I love this time of year. It's finally mild enough outside to actually want to be outdoors. It's not too hot, it's not too cold, it's just right. Grab a scarf, a cardigan, maybe some layers, and you're done. This might not be the case everywhere. I have been hearing from some of my clients who have told me it's well into the 90's where they live. So maybe it's not cardigans as lightweight outwear for everyone, but it is for me and I am going to soak it up.
Lightweight Outerwear: Cardigans for Mild Spring Weather
If you are looking for the perfect lightweight outerwear, consider your cardigans as your jackets. Want some outfit ideas? Take a look at some of the outfits I have put together below. And don't forget to take a look at additional cardigan styles at the end of this post.
Outfit #1
I chose this first cardigan from Banana Republic because it resembles a lightweight bomber jacket. For a casual look, I styled it with a grey tank from Madwell, a pair of crop jeans from J. Crew, and finished the look with a printed scarf from Caslon, metallic Vans, pink bag from Kate Spade and navy earring from Lauren Ralph Lauren.
Outfit #2
I'm a fan of boyfriend cardigans. They can be sleek and slimming for work or weekend. I styled this grey cardigan from Theory with a sleeveless blouse in burgundy from Madewell, a pair of skinny olive cargos from J. Crew, and finished the outfit with peep toe booties from Vince Camuto, a sheer Burberry Brit scarf, grey bag from Marc Jacobs, and pendant from Ippolita.
Outfit #3
If you are looking for some polished comfort, check out this outfit I created using this longer cardigan from L.K. Bennett that I layered over a tunic and leggings from Eileen Fisher. I finished the outfit with a statement necklace from Stella & Dot, coral suede crossbody from Rebecca Minkoff, and grey ballerina flats from Nine West.
