Say what you will about Forrest Gump, there’s a certain truth to that line. You never know what you’re going to get. People run into problems when they don’t get what they want.
I know there are brutal things that happen in life that no one wants – think of those as poisons we rightly avoid, and it is always a triumph when we overcome them.
But I am talking about the things in life that might happen, and you can suck it up and solve it with humor and good grace, or you can throw a screaming hissy fit.
Imagine you bite into a chocolate expecting smooth, creamy caramel, and you get crunchy nuts. Ew. I am not a fan pralines and walnuts in chocolate, to me, the ruin a perfectly good treat. Recently we’ve been dealing with schedule changes and some unexpected events, like surprise guests. None of this is especially harmful or traumatic, there is no threat to life or limb. Just unexpected change. We can accept it and deal with it, while embracing the surprise guests.
Who knows, we may even appreciate it later on.
Or we can throw a hissy fit.
