Story: Let’s Scare Julie starts as the teenage girls play a prank on one of their own Emma (Johnson), with Taylor (May), Madison (A’zoin), Jess (Sorenson), Paige (Flaum) all getting a good laugh out of the incident, leading to them discussing their new reclusive neighbor and the mystery about their daughter.
The girls decide they want to prank the neighbor Julie, which will see them push Emma into helping them, in an incident that will see the girls start to vanish suddenly without any explanation.
Thoughts on Let’s Scare Julie
Thoughts – Let’s Scare Julie is a movie that is trying to rely on the unique approach it takes to a horror film, being a single take, real time story, following a group of teenage girls planning a prank on a new neighbor. The standout feature of the whole film is the masks, which are new, unique and could be terrifying if someone approached you wearing one. That is, it when it comes to the positive side of things because the concept gets bogged down on the over use of the pranks on Emma in the early part, while never showing us the true extent of the prank on the neighbour, focusing more one that stays behind watching the horror events unfold on the friends. The acting isn’t the strongest, with only Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson coming out of this having any strong scenes. It is even hard to tell which characters are who, which is more frustrating as they all come off like ditzy blondes.
Final Thoughts – Let’s Scare Julie is a weak horror that might well have frightening masks, but falls flat on the story idea.
