Story: Let Go starts when we meet Stella (Bornebusch) the mother of teenager Anna (Johnson) and troubled son Manne (Tikkakoski). Her husband Gustav (Hagen) has become distant and checked out of their relationship and drops the request for a divorce. However, Stella isn’t willing to let things go and demands that he go on a family trip to support Anna’s dance competition.

Verdict on Let Go

Let Go is a drama following a mother and wife who is watching her life fall apart. She tries to keep everything together after her husband asks for a divorce by arranging a road trip. However, the trip causes bigger truths to come to light as the family is tested more than ever.

This movie feels a lot like a more serious ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ where a dysfunctional family goes on a road trip for competition. It highlights the problems they are facing in life and the struggles they are facing. This does a great job of showing what is upsetting each member of the family and what needs to be fixed if they are going to remain together. The performances are great, and the problems feel more natural instead of over-the-top wacky ones. There is a nice balance between drama and comedy which keeps the story feeling natural in how it unfolds.

Where to Watch

Let Go is available on Netflix now.

Final Thoughts Let Go is a great movie with a gut punch in storytelling.
