By the time Linkin Park released the album with today’s song on it, I wasn’t so much a fan of their music anymore. However, I couldn’t help but fall in love with this track because it was so easy to relate to. Plus, the music is beautiful and Chester’s vocals are spotlighted well.

Leave Out All the Rest was released as a single in July of 2008 from the band’s third album, Minutes to Midnight. It was the last single to be released from the album, charting at only #94 on Billboard’s Hot 100. However, it did manage to take the #11 spot on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rock Tracks. In the UK, the song was much more successful, making #6.

According to Songfacts, the original title of the song was called, “Fear” and it had many lyric changes before the band settled on the final version. The lyrics describe a man who is seeking redemption from his past mistakes.

Above is a live video from Rock in Rio 2008.

When my time comes, forget the wrong that I’ve done…help me leave behind some reasons to be missed. And don’t resent me, and when you’re feeling empty…keep me in your memory, leave out all the rest…leave out all the rest.
