Guest blog: My Reiki journey; a discovery of healing energies and the power within

Guest blog by Robyn Thomas. So excited to welcome her

Many are unaware of Reiki healing and its vast healing possibilities. The Usui Holy Fire Reiki system incorporates Reiki symbols, attunement placements, distance healing methods, and hand positions for working with oneself and others. As a practitioner, I connect with and direct universal life-force energy that surrounds every living thing, to balance the life-force energy within. This involves channeling source energy, setting intentions, connecting with Reiki symbols, Mother Earth, and myself to balance and ground mind, body, spirit.

How is Reiki performed?

Reiki is a form of energetic medicine. It’s a Japanese methodology for stress reduction in guiding energy force. This method aids in promoting energy healing and relaxation. It helps with insomnia, anxiety reduction, stress reduction, and encourages emotional and physical healing. Reiki allows positive energy to flow into the body through my crown and out of my hands. It’s done by first connecting with Reiki, scanning the body with my hands, then placing my hands in a series of positions over or slightly above the body to guide "life force energy." This allows a transferring flow of energies through my palms to the patient, and can also be provided in the form of distance healing.

Most healing sessions last for 30-60 minutes. Typically, the patient lays on a massage table, but it can be performed sitting or standing. Clients may feel heat, cooling, or tingling sensations. They may be overwhelmed with various emotional releases or even fall asleep. Some clients come with a purpose or want to work on certain issues. This holds space and guides the session to promote the healing outcome they’re working toward. It’s an individual experience. It’s great to have an intention but not to go in with expectations, so you can fully immerse and surrender yourself to the experience of the beautiful energies that are working to heal both auric and cellular levels. Some might not feel anything at all until after the session has ended or days later. Most individuals see positive changes after four or more sessions. Even though we are working with magical energies, we are human. These energies need to attune in the physical body. Since we constantly weave through various energies daily, it’s good maintain alignment in our bodies and reduce daily stressors. It’s like working out, you don’t get muscles from one visit to the gym! If you don’t stay active, your joints get stiff and you lose muscle mass. You do the work to see results.

For those looking for a scientific stance - look at Quantum physiology. Everything is energy! We are all energy-matter! For instance, something that’s solid is energy that has slowed down so much in vibration that becomes a solid. Our ability to access energy is all around even though we can’t see it with the naked eye. We feel energy in other ways. Rub your hands together fast, for about 15-20 seconds. Then hold your hands about an inch apart. What do you feel? Energy! Take a flame- it looks smaller than the heat it gives off, right? If you move closer before you reach the flame, you feel the flame's energy, and you get burned.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki is "spiritually guided life force energy." Meaning it’s spiritual- not a religion. It has no dogma, respects all life lineage, and there is nothing you must believe to receive Reiki. Reiki is gentile, will never harm, and will always heal.

You can never have too much Reiki as it’s a natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement for all life forms. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness. It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects. It promotes recovery on a subconscious level and cellular level. Reiki benefits us in so many ways.

It’s also very beneficial for our pets. It can be given to them when we are not physically present with distance healing. I know many pet owners stress about leaving their fur babies. When little or big stressors pile up, this can cause Ki energies not to flow in our body, causing energies to get stuck. Stress is clinically proven to be a leading cause of illnesses in the body. Another form of stuck energy can be from emotional pain or physical injury. In time, these energy blocks can cause chronic illness in our bodies.

That’s when Reiki plays an important role. It balances and heals the energy flow. Reiki promotes healing by activating the relaxation response and helps the body balance itself on a deep, cellular level. Its energy is endless- it reduces anxiety, pain, strengthens immunity, and boosts intuition.

Reiki, being a life force energy, is accessible to everyone; humans, animals, and plants. And our pets love it. Like us, animals have chakras, meridians, and Nadis flowing through their being. They too can get stuck energies. When one's life force is vibrating high, we are more capable of being happy, healthy, loving, and being our best authentic self. Reiki can be channeled anywhere, anytime, and to anything!

Learning to be a Reiki master

The ability to learn Reiki is passed on from the teacher to the student through the attunement process and lineage, and teaching the symbols and techniques. As soon as this process happens, Reiki can be used. It can be easily learned and accessed by anyone! That’s how I found a connection with Reiki.

Since a young girl, I have always been a seeker of the energetic realm. Whether it was angels, Earth energies, craftwork, or other energy systems. I’m very sensitive to the energies of humanity and the animal kingdom. This increased my thirst for knowledge in learning metaphysical lineages. I’m sure as children we all tried to heal our friends with our hands, move objects with our eyes, read our best friends' thoughts, or talk to our pets. I always felt there was something more than this physical form and we could heal on a different level.

In my mid-20s’ I discovered energy healing and shamanism and was drawn to seeking more. Then three years ago my best friend invited me to take a course presented by an Algonquin medicine man to learn quantum shamanic Reiki. Excited, I took my level 1 with her. It was a beautiful experience to feel the energies flowing through my body and to connected to Mother Earth. Not to mention receiving and giving my first Reiki session with my best friend.

Although most teachers teach levels 1 and 2 together- level 1 is more the process of making the journey to healing and clear blockages within yourself. The role of the Reiki master teacher is to provide the lineage of Reiki, teaching techniques, and attuning you to the energies. It’s up to you to process these energies and get in touch with yourself, your intuition, and the flow of Reiki energies.

A year after practicing on myself- I sought out to learn Usui Holy Fire Reiki 111 from a beautiful lady in Ottawa. I took my level 1 and 2 Usui Holy Fire courses. It was an awakening experience. I provided Reiki to my friend’s family and pets. I wanted everyone to feel these amazing energies. I noticed when I pulled out crystals to do Reiki on myself, my brother's cat would come and lay on or near me and sleep. I decided to try it on him. He started purring and seemed to enjoy it. I never heard him purr before! I know that not all cats purr. Now he was.

I moved to Montreal and was drawn to upgrade my knowledge and take the Reiki master course. I finished in July 2020. I’m grateful I could take it in person, now courses are being taught online. I’m beginning to open my practice to facilitate Reiki sessions.

My personal Reiki journey

In my journey I feel, Reiki isn’t solely to perform healing for others- for me, it’s first a personal journey in learning to continually heal myself, which I practice daily. I’m continuously growing. It has given me the grace to seek my inner healing wisdom. As an energy healer, it’s important to guide others in discovering their tools to heal in their own journey. A healer assists in providing tools for you to tune into your energetic body and the divine energy you possess. Healers guide the light; you have to do the work.

If you feel curious or connected to learning more or want to experience Reiki energy, I’m open to connecting and giving a consultation. You must find a practitioner you resonate with. I encourage everyone to openly research Reiki or other healing modalities. Step into your power of healing your body, mind, and spirit. Be generous, be kind, be the love and compassion you want to receive, and see in our world.

This post is dedicated to the memory of Joseph the cat.
